An oldie but a goodie....

Love this photo. Took it of my niece and sister when we vacationed in spain in October of '04. My niece was playing "chubby". Makes me smile.

word of the day...

is comeuppance. definition: a deserved rebuke or penalty.

I've been thinking about this word a lot lately. About the whole concept that you reap what you sow. God, it's so very true. I know a few people who need to remember that.

It is amazing, when your comeuppance does indeed reveal itself, how intensely it can take its course. I'm watching one example of that with a person who I would consider to be one of the meaner people I've ever met, and this person's comeuppance is literally amazing, and extraordinarily well deserved. I can only hope that this person "starts with that man [or woman] in the mirror", to quote Michael Jackson, and figures out that what they see is a good place to start.

I'm just gonna leave it at that.

duck season... wedding season...

I'm sitting here thinking about the next few months, and how ridiculously busy I'm about to be. It's actually kind of cool - I'm booked through the summer fairly solidly, and on and off into the fall as far as November. Granted, this means I won't be out and about quite as much, but let's be honest, I'm kind of like Haley's Comet anyway...

Most of the gigs are weddings, although there's also a bunch of club stuff and the occasional corporate shindig thrown in there too. My horizon is getting clearer, thank the lord. Not that I want to be a wedding dj, mind you, but to have the means to be home more to work on my own remixes and mashups... yay...

Ah well... off to work on this rainy Saturday.

Not just wheat, but...

Maple and dust mites. In addition to wheat, that's what I'm allergic to. Just found out yesterday doing a skin test at my allergy doc's office.

So I guess no more pancakes with syrup served over dust mites for me...
I kid.

But, the dust mite thing does explain an awful lot - like why I cough for 2 hours every morning (as a non-smoker of 10+ years). The cleanup and subsequent prevention for all of that stuff is a little rough, but totally worth it. I had wee-babe-like sleep last night, and nary a cough escaped my lips this morning, which was blissful.

Now if they would just get that smoking ban over and done with, I'd be a happy camper...

DJ lil'e - Media hooore

so there was another pic of yours truly in the Weekend section of the Post - I was over at Vegetate, the super duper new veggie restaurant that just opened in Shaw (right around the corner from my humble abode too - bonus!) I was lusting over the brand spankin' new 'tables that are positioned in the upstairs portion of the restaurant (and, by the way, I've never actually seen a room more delightfully focused around a HUGE dj setup, courtesy of the super uber nice DJ Dredd - yayeeee), when this fella snapped a picture, asked me my name, told me he was from the Post, and kept snappin'. I wasn't sure what it was for, but it turns out that they did a huge story about the woes that this restaurant is having getting it's liquor license.

It's sad, there's a church rather close by who is keeping them from maintaining said license by citing this stupid-assed law about houses of sin, oh, I mean "restaurants" that serve liquor, being within 400 feet of a church. I think the proximity is something like 362 feet.

I could rant and rave about this, but instead I used the link on Vegetate's site to write to councilmember Jack Evans, and voice my dissatisfaction with this dumassyness (and yes, I did use my grownup voice...). Let's hope the peeps can prevail on this one.
