Pardon my french (and my blasphemy), but

Holy sweet mother of fucking god. This is quite possibly either the best ruse or the biggest example of freakishness I've EVER seen.

yeowch!

So, it turns out that I dislocated my kneecap on Saturday afternoon. 2 other peeps I know have done it, and said that I'm lucky I didn't tear my ACL, which would end my career as a Solid Gold Dancer for sure. (I call that I get to be the girl with the super long hair! Guess you had to be a little girl in the '70s to appreciate that one...) Anyway...

I get to do 4 weeks of physical therapy to try and sort it out, plus I have to wear special inserts to keep my lower leg (and thus my knee) stable from here on out. For now my nickname is Granny, as I am hobbling around all slow-like. Typically it takes me 15-20 minutes to get from my house to my day job; right now it takes 45. niiiice, huh?

At least it really hurts!

But seriously, I'm just glad this isn't in the midst of peak special events season, where I'm djing 2+ times every weekend. Thank goodness my assistant is ready and willing to carry all the heavy stuff, seriously. My trunk of gold lame pants suits and headbands will not be left behind, by god!

Right Round - 1/20/07 - part 2

2 things:

1) The smoking ban rules. If you're a smoker, sorry - I smoked a pack a day for some time (quit 12 years ago), so I know how it is to jones for cigarettes and all of that, but I also know that I woke up feeling great on Sunday, rather than crappy and smelly as hell. Yeah.

2) Thanks to Hugh at poseurs.com, there are pictures online of Saturday night! Here's one (adjusted so you can see all the peeps - yay!!!)

Right Round - 1/20/07 - Setlist and Commentary

Okay, so I should preface this by saying that January is not my month health-wise. Yesterday afternoon, my knee decided it had enough of me and blew out in the Wholefoods parking lot. To the man who jumped out of his car, picked me up and helped me to my car as I screamed in pain, thank you - you are a saint, and most certainly the reason that I have faith there are still good people in this world.

I'm fine, by the way. Hobbling a bit, but fine. However, such things can put a definite damper on a dj night.

Didn't seem to make a difference at Right Round, though.

Final count - 430.

Yes, you read it right.

RIP to my teeny wee froggie

Over the weekend Giaccometti, the 2nd of my 3 white's tree frogs died. The first frog, Bobafet, died in November. So far we've had them for 9 years - who knows how old they really are.

In a world of dogs and cats, I know the idea of owning a frog as a pet may seem silly to some, but Andy and I really love our froggies - they're low maintenance, funny to look at, and just cool, different pets. So, pardon me as I walk down memory lane for a sec, here...

We had one big old White's named Chow a couple of years before these 3 - he was a sweet, big fat frog, and we loved him. He would sit on your shoulder all day, loved being held, and was just fun as a pet. He got incredibly sick a couple of years into us having him (I even took him to the vet for surgeries, that's how much we loved the wee hopper), but to no avail. After Chow died, I got Sinatra, the first of the 3 new White's. I bought Bobafet 2nd, cause he was wee teeny and cute, and got Giaccometti third. Giac had a little club foot, and I figured nobody would want him. Andy told me no more frogs after that (or else I guess I would've filled the house, who knows...)

Anyway, I feel awfully bad for poor Sinatra, who is now all alone. We haven't heard him bark yet, which is what they do when they're looking for other frogs, but he hasn't moved from the spot he was sitting when Giac died, either.

Anyway, we'll miss his little club foot and his chirpy-ness, and how funny and shy he was. The pic below isn't any of our frogs, but is a picture of what the breed looks like - how can you not love that cuteness???

Ciao - the aftermath

Waking up this morning I can honestly say that I feel worse today than I felt yesterday. This flu of mine is just raging like a fiend, and won't release me. It truly sucks.

Last night was odd - I wasn't sure what to expect between it being the first Friday after New Year's Eve, and the competition of both the 9:30 club and the Black Cat. Aside from that, I went into the gig worried about my health more than anything (and praising DC for banning cigarrettes - sorry to all of you smokers out there), as I still had a fever of 101 when I left the house last night.

The folks at the Rock N Roll hotel were awesome - super nice, really helpful - it's a great place to play, should you ever find yourself in need of such a thing. However, considering I started at 9:30 and was supposed to go until 2:30, I wasn't entirely sure that I'd make it through the night.

In spite of the fact that I thought the music was great, turnout was not so great. And don't get me wrong, I REALLY appreciated all of the folks who came out to support me, and I hope I didn't piss them off too much when I pulled the plug at 1am. Frankly my dears, I just had to take my health and the turnout into account and, as Kenny Rogers so rightly said, I had to know when to fold 'em. Seeing how I'm feeling today, I know I made the right call.

I am not thwarted from trying this night out again - I just may take a little time to figure out where and when I'll do it. Setlist may follow, depending on how motivated I feel later today.

Now, back to bed with me.

stupid germy floaty buggie-like thingies

I am soooo sick. So ridiculously sick. I swear, this wee flu tiptoed up behind me around 1:00 yesterday afternoon, tapped me gently on the shoulder, then bitch-slapped its way into my bod like you wouldn't believe.

101 fever.

coughing, sniffling.

shrink-wrapped-like feeling.

I cancelled my dj gig for tonight (Tinderbox), and am sitting here under my darling "blank blank", easily the bestest sick blanket there is, doing some work and drinking sick people tea, praying that all of the vitamins and stuff that I'm shoving into my gob will make me functional by tomorrow night for Ciao. Plus, my fella is out of town, so I get to fetch my own tea refills and soup and everything [cue: "All By Myself"]. No fair!

OH, and if you're supposed to feed a cold and starve a fever, what the heck are you supposed to do when you have a cold and a fever, I ask you????

Send visions of cough syrup into my head, wouldya? Blegch
