Yesterday...

I heard "Walking on Sunshine" 3 times.

Three.

Times.

In 3 separate places.

It knows. It is on to me.

10 days 'til The Race

And we're not quite there yet with our donations! I'm only $5 from my fundraising goal - c'mon, y'all!!!! If any Right Round fans contribute and bring me over my goal, I'll put you on my guest list for the next Right Round - which, in June, is on the MAIN STAGE - so you can get in for free, and help boobs at the same time - BONUS!

Just contribute to me (Erin Myers, for those who only know me as e), and either email me at djlile@msn.com or put a comment with your name on this posting, and I'll add you!!! (Limit to the first 3 peeps - a girl's gotta make a living, after all...)

Thanks!!!

3 reasons I hate the song "walking on sunshine" - oh, and the right round setlist and commentary

I don't know what kind of cultural black hole is happening right now, but I swear to God, if I hear friggin "Walking on Sunshine" one more time - be it in a store, or my car, or in a movie, or any other place, I'm going to go postal on whatever radio is spewing that garbage out. I mean it.

Yes, I hate that song with a passion blinder than the eye power of Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder smooshed together. Why, you ask? I am ever-so-happy to jump up on my soap box and spew forth some hateful bile regarding this topic, thank you very much...

1) Forced happy makes me cringe (case in point - the song "Love Shack" by the B52s - I don't care how much Kate Pierson does those fake happy sounds in the background, the song is still annoying as hell). I am, in fact, cringing this very moment, thinking of it.

B) Everyone and their brother - in the advertising world and otherwise - feels the need to play that song in order to express some FALSE vision of collective joy toward humanity. I don't care if it's used for a friggin' montage, or to show that someone in a movie had a major financial or relationship breakthrough, or to sell telephone service; I want to claw my eyes out and run screaming in circles, praying for spontaneous combustion from that first "WEAGH" or whatever the hell sound it is Katrina vomits out within 5 seconds of the song starting.

and third) Name one other Katrina and the Waves song. Exactly.

ALSO - have you seen the terrible video??? The song is called WALKING ON SUNSHINE. Why then, pray tell, would they film the damn video on the most dismal day of the year in England, at the most depressing-assed abandoned factory in the entire universe. Trying to be ironic, Katrina? Only with that outfit and that hair. Srsly.

PHEW - that has been ON my mind since yesterday. Thank you for listening.

Now, without further cringing, steaming adieu, here's the setlist from last week's right round (speaking of being "hot as an oven" - holy crap, y'all, could it have been hotter in there???) OH, and there are "**" by all the requests:

How much does my nephew rule, I ask you!?

This is my nephew, who is 12.

He could hit a baseball over the house as soon as he could pick up a bat.

This video shows why he rules, and the rest of us are not worthy. That's a 250 foot ringer, ladies and gentlemen. And he's so friggin cool about it. Yeah. I think my favorite part of this video is the sound of the team congratulating him at home plate. There's something about kids cheering that way that I think is just the best.

Now, private joke between my nephew and I:

NIIIIIIIIICE (you know the voice I'm using...)!!!!!!

Well done neph. Make sure you buy Auntie a nice big house when you hit the majors, k?

lookit my new blog title!!!!

I designed it myself! Impressed???

Speaking of The Cure

I got to see them for the 5th time in my 22+ years as a fan on Friday - for a 49 year old, Robert Smith sounded friggin' AWESOME - they played for 3 hours, and did 3 amazing encores. All the stuff from the forthcoming album (especially the song freak show) sounded absolutely great.

OH, and right before the show, as we were walking up to the Patriot Center, I saw the tour bus, and what looked like a big mop of black hair emerging from the side of it. It was THE MAN himself, talking on his cell phone - and nobody noticed but me!!! After screetching for my friends to GET OVER HERE NOW, I then screetched "hi Robert Smith on his cell phone!!!!" and waved frantically - to which I got a little wave and a grin back.

I can die now.

Anyway, here's the setlist from the show - and here's my favorite of the cell phone pics (feel free to be sosososo jealous whilst you see how close I was - thank you SOOOOOOO much Ed Stack!!!!)

Support my first wee marathon effort, wouldya?

First of all, I love that the tagline for the Race for the Cure is "I am the cure". Considering my love for 80s alt pop, you can see why this is funny for me - who wouldn't want to be The Cure???

(Fake argument between Robert Smith and I):
RS: Erm, I am the Cure.
e: I'm sorry Robert, but I beg to differ. AND I have an "I am the cure" t-shirt to prove it, k?
RS: (whimpers, skulks away)

All joking aside, though, I recently accepted the challenge to support the fight against breast cancer by participating in Susan G. Komen National Race for the Cure on June 7, 2008 in Washington, DC. I will run my little feets off for a few miles that morning, and am hoping I can also get all my darling family, friends, peeps and the rest of you lot to throw some money into my fund-raising coffer.

Here is some info provided by the peeps at RftC:

1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime and the more money we raise, the more Susan G. Komen for the Cure® can give back to fund vital breast cancer education, screening and treatment programs in our own community.

$3 million of the funds raised through the 2007 Race remained in the Washington, DC, community – including metro-area counties in Virginia and Maryland – to fund outreach programs and initiatives that address the specific unmet breast health needs of the area. Washington, DC, has the highest breast cancer mortality rate in the United States.

It is easy to support this great cause. You can make a pledge online by simply clicking on the link to my personal pledge page at the bottom of this message. If you would prefer there is also a downloadable form to send in pledges through the mail. Another option is a general donation by choosing Donations on the website at www.nationalraceforthecure.org.

Best protection is early detection!
I AM THE CURE.™

See, Robert, I AM the cure. There's even a trademark to prove it! :)

Happy Birthday Andy!

Happy birthday, my dear husband.

Knowing you for the last 18 years has been a delightful, hilarious, entertaining journey that now spans half of both our lifetimes (hard to believe what babies we were when we met in high school...). The last 14 in this incarnation have been beyond measure - even the hard times were made easier with you to give me perspective. Thanks so much for being the best partner in crime a girl could ask for.
